Auk & Condor’s successful joint publishing office described at BioOne Annual Meeting

Kathleen Erickson, Managing Editor of The Auk and The Condor, recently spoke about the success of the journals’ unique joint venture model at the annual BioOne Publishers and Partners Meeting in Washington, D.C. Since 2014, The Auk and The Condor have been published through a joint venture office of the American Ornithologists’ Union (AOU) and the Cooper Ornithological Society (Cooper). The primary goals of the joint publishing venture were to publish weekly and to save money, but it has also enabled the journals to promote ornithological information more widely: on the new Journals joint website (http://www.aoucospubs.org) with more open access articles, on EurekAlert, Twitter, and the COPO blog. Promoting authors and researchers with media outreach has been an extension of the new joint venture, and the media coverage received has been another added value for The Auk and The Condor and their authors. You can see Kathleen Erickson’s PowerPoint presentation, “Birds of a Feather: How Two 130-Year-Old Ornithology Journals Teamed Up to Cut Costs and Publish Weekly,” at http://www.bioone.org/page/about/presentations.
